The Devil Will Not Have You

  • Mood: Tired
  • Music: Some Days Are Diamonds - Tom Petty

Have you ever had one of those days where you just didn’t know what you wanted to do? You know there are things you need to do, but you keep putting them off and piddling with other things. I’m supposed to be reading a novel and turning in a review of it by Monday, but I can’t seem to get to it. I’m also supposed to be working on “Valley of Bones” my latest work-in-progress, or at least editing something I’ve already finished and need to get back into print.

I did spend the day revamping my Web site and adding excerpts to all my novels that are available for purchase or are coming soon! The sad thing is, I haven’t finished a complete novel in over two years  I think I must be burned out by all the small press publishers, which are getting me nowhere. I think I’m going to concentrate on selling e-Books of my titles and see how that goes. I have a good feeling about SynergEbooks.

I did all of my laundry today, so I suppose I’ve been pretty productive, especially since I feel like mud…tired and rundown…haven’t been very hungry either, which is unusual for me. I did eat a whole can of pear halves.

My baby sister asked me if I would please, please, please come over to her house on Christmas and cook the turkey, because she doesn’t know how *laughing*. I told her I would come in through the backdoor around 7 a.m. and get it in the oven without waking them. Most people let it cook all night, but I think that makes it all shriveled, dried out, and less fresh.

The other day I read a disturbing and graphic image of what a sniper sees after he pulls the trigger, which is what my boyfriend did in the military (one of many things he was trained for). I was horrified by it and wondered why he chose to train for and carry out something like that, but at the same time it made me feel protective of him and love him more than ever. I pray every day that he remembers I am the light in his life, and that I’ll love him through anything. Anyway, all of that inspired a poem…one of my darker ones:

The Devil Will Not Have You
The devil will not have you.
He will not drag
you to his black demise
and leave the stink
of Hell upon your flesh.
He will not roar in
and steal your spirit
with lies and trickery
wrapped in shadows of truth,
leaving you broken and desolate.
He will not whisper
of things done in cold blood,
and in the darkest hours
of a stormy night convince you that
you're unworthy of an angel's love.
The devil will not win
your wounded soul;
I'll see to that.
For he'll have to fight me first,
and I'm armed with my
ferocious love for you,
and the faith of a million
mustard seeds.

Well, I’m off to do some heavy reading! Catch ya next time around
